Determining your front bumper's position relative to walls or leading cars is one of the biggest challenges for beginner drivers due to bonnet obstruction. Remember these universal sightline markers for standard sedans and crossovers:
To judge where your left and right wheels are rolling without peeking out the window:
Left Wheel Track: Align the center of your left windshield wiper node with the lane marking line. Your left tire will roll directly along that line with a 10 cm margin.
Right Wheel Track: Align the exact center point of your dashboard (or front bonnet badge) with the lane marking line. Your right tire will roll 30 cm inside that boundary line.
When reversing toward a wall or parking barrier, look at your side wing mirrors. As the bottom edge of your side mirror glass aligns horizontally with the base root of the wall or curb, your rear bumper is exactly 30 cm away from the obstacle.
Look at your side mirrors. When the bottom edge of your side mirror aligns with the base of the curb wall behind you, your rear bumper is exactly 30 cm (1 foot) away from the obstacle.
